1. How do I know if I can participate in graduation?

a. If you have filled out an intent to graduate form then you will be contacted by the Office of the Registrar in February notifying you whether or not you are eligible to walk.

2. Why do I need to fill out an intent to graduate form?

a. You must have an Intent to Graduate form on file before we can issue a diploma. Whether you plan to attend the commencement ceremony or not, we must have your Intent to Graduate form turned in by December 31st.

If you missed this deadline please contact the Office of the Registrar at 620-241-0723 ex. 116

3. What happens if I don’t have all of my classes done by May?

a. You can still walk in the graduation ceremony, provided you are only missing 6 credits or less. The Registrar’s Office will notify you regarding whether you can participate in the ceremony or not by the middle of February.

4. Do I need to order my cap and gown?

a. No. As long as you have filled out the Intent to Graduate form we will order your regalia.

5. When can I get my cap and gown?

a. Traditional students can pick up their regalia from the Registrar’s Office during finals week. Online and EXCEL students will pick up regalia on the day of graduation. A schedule informing you where these items are located will be provided the morning of the ceremony.

6. What should I wear?

a. We recommend that men wear a collared shirt, and women should wear comfortable shoes. There will be quite a bit of walking on the day of graduation, so dress comfortably. Also, keep in mind that you will be wearing a black robe and May in Kansas is typically windy and warm.

7. I keep hearing about honors. What does that mean?

a. Students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher are eligible for graduation honors. This means that a special note will be added to your transcript to denote the honor. Also, if you attend the graduation ceremony you will receive a special cord to wear.

8. I have family coming in…is there somewhere they can stay?

a. There are a couple of places to stay in McPherson. For contact information you can go to; at some hotels, if you mention you are coming for an event at the college they will provide a discount. If you have trouble finding a room in McPherson you can also try Salina or Hutchinson, both of which are within a 30 mile radius of campus.

9. Where is the nearest airport?

a. The nearest airport is located in Wichita, KS (ICT), approximately one hour south of McPherson.

10. Is there a limit to how many guests I can bring?

a. There is a limit to how many people you can bring to Ivy Cutting. Please RSVP to Missy Mayse by April 25th for this event (traditional students only). There is no limit to how many people you may bring to Commencement on Saturday afternoon.

11. When will I get my diploma?

a. For students who have completed all of their requirements prior to graduation, diplomas will be mailed     5-6 weeks after graduation. If you have missing credits, missing assessments, or a balance with the business office, your diploma will not be mailed until those obligations have been satisfied.

15. Will my family be able to take pictures during graduation?

a. The front row of seats at Commencement will be left empty so that family/friends can take pictures of you on the stage. However, we ask that once your family/friends snap the picture they return to their seat so other graduate’s families can also have a chance.

16. What time does Commencement start?

a. Doors open at 2:00 P.M. CST and the ceremony begins at 2:30 P.M. CST. You can find a complete schedule of events here.
